Abstract
Allen, Stephens, Jaffe and Wakelam (1959) isolated a lactobacillus which they found to require a growth factor present in malt distillers'' dried solubles. We have identified the organism as belonging to the subgroup Thermobacterium Orla-Jensen, It was grownthrough many serial passages in a chemically defined medium containing thymidine, and had no residual indispensable requirement for unidentified nutrients. Keywords
