Abstract
The status of 4 specimens of grey kangaroos collected in the 19th century has long been subject to conjecture by taxonomists interested in the Macropodidae. These specimens are still housed in European collections: 2, including the type, are held in Paris [France], the 3rd is in Leiden [Netherlands] and the 4th in London [England, UK]. All 4 were attributed at various times to M. f. fuliginosus from Kangaroo Island, South Australia. Multivariate analyses of measurements from the 3 skulls still associated with the specimens confirmed that the specimens in Paris and Leiden are M. f. fuliginosus, but that in London is the Tasmanian form of the eastern grey kangaroo, M. giganteus tasmaniensis. Keywords
