Abstract
An approach for characterizing stationary liquid phases used in gas liquid chromatography by using thermodynamic parameters is presented. This system utilizes partial molal and mole fraction free energies of solution and various functional groups calculated from the enthalpy and entropy terms of these groups. Assuming the additivity of functional groups, the partial molal and mole fraction free energies of the functional groups found in various solutes suggested by Rohrschneider are reported on 16 stationary phases. These stationary phases are then characterized according to the differences in free energies of solution of the different functional groups. Keywords
