Abstract
The main features of the structure of coir fibre are discussed with special reference to the spiral fibrillar structure of the ultimate fibre cells and its effect on the extensibility and elastic properties of the fibre. It appears that, by virtue of the large value (45°) of the spiral angle in its ultimate cells, the fibre combines a high degree of intra-fibrillar orientation with elastic properties generally associated with relatively poorly oriented regenerated cellulose fibres. Keywords
