Abstract
Melittia cucurbitae may be reared to the adult from field-collected eggs by using the fruit and stems of preferred hosts as food. Attempts were made to rear larvae on watermelon, cucumber, and cantaloupe, but none of the 84 newly hatched larvae introduced into the stems or fruits of these cucurbits were able to utilize the tissues for continued development. A partial 2d generation of the squash borer was observed in 1949 in upstate New York. Keywords
