H− production and destruction mechanisms in hydrogen low pressure discharges

Abstract
The density of negative hydrogen ions and the plasma characteristics are investigated in several configurations of the multicusp plasma generator. H− destruction in plasma is analyzed and two different destruction regimes are discussed. The decrease in H− density with increasing gas pressure is explained in terms of an increase of the rate of mutual neutralization, due to the reduction of the ion energies when the pressure is increased.
