Abstract
The social structure of French cities. Typology through analysis of correspondences and automatic classification. — Simultaneous application of factor analysis of correspondences and hierarchically ascending classification based upon X2 distance is used to classify French cities according to the occupational status of their population (1968) . The study of loading values of variables and observations makes easier and more rigorous the interpretation of results. Coordinated use of the two techniques leads us to a good classification of cities, and reveals that, from the choosen point of view, France is peculiarly divided into three large regions.Keywords
