A localized moment model for paramagnetism in Ni3Al

Abstract
Analysis of magnetization vs. field isotherms at 45° to 65°K to 12.7 kOe in terms of two Brillouin functions (taking into account interaction between dipoles in the molecular field approximation) and the use of susceptibility data up to 300°K led to a localized moment model for Ni 3Al, involving a Ni moment of 0.37 μB and a low concentration of magnetic clusters with average moments of 12 to 16 μB. Magnetization values extrapolated by means of the model to 200 kOe agree with published data1a for a different specimen to within 7.4%.
