The effects of some growth retardants on the growth of shoots and storage roots of radish

Abstract
Summary Of 12 growth retardants only AMO 1618, daminozide and RH 531 (sodium-1-(p-chlorophenyl)-l,2-dihydro-4,6-dimethyl-2-oxo-nicotinate) increased the root to shoot ratio of pot-grown radish plants at the concentrations employed, the most effective being daminozide. Further experiments with this compound showed that, although the retardant did not affect total plant fresh or dry weight, there was a positive correlation between the concentration applied and root yield per plant. The modifying effects of daminozide on storage root/shoot ratio were persistent at all concentrations used throughout the duration of the experiments.
