Decoupling of the pion at finite temperature and density

Abstract
We use the Nambu–Jona-Lasinio model at finite temperature and density to investigate the static and dynamical properties of the pion. Near the chiral phase transition the pion is found to decouple from matter. The relevance of this result for hadronic matter is discussed.Keywords
