Abstract
The use of power-law lubricant in a rheostatic thrust bearing with a variable film thickness is considered. It is found that for maximum load capacity the film thickness function is a step function. In this case a relation between film thickness ratio and step radius is obtained. For a constant film thickness, the load capacity increases as n, the flow behaviour index decreases. However in the case of stepped bearing the maximum load capacity can increase or decrease with respect to n depending on the film thickness ratio. Keywords
