Abstract
Thirty-nine additional strains of M. pyogenes variety aureus were studied with regard to the production of capsular material. Nearly all the strains which fermented mannitol and produced coagulase and alpha toxin showed some organisms with capsular swelling when exposed to high titer immune serum. This reaction was not specific as the strains had varying phage patterns and belonged to different serological groups. Strains which were mannitol- coagulase- and alpha toxin negative did not show evidence of this capsular material. Keywords
