Abstract
The application of feedback control methods to wastewater treatment processes requires instrumentation suitable for continuous measurement of significant process variables. Recently, a German company has developed a new device for online measurement of the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). In this paper the principle of operation of the new device is explained and the measuring method is described. Practical experiences are presented and discussed. The obtained results are in very good agreement with conventional sample tests. Finally, future areas of application are indicated from a control engineering point of view. Keywords
