Abstract
The treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia is evolving as we develop better understanding of surgery and its alternatives. Until the value of the alternatives has been proved, surgery is appropriate for patients with absolute indications for treatment. Several randomized placebo-controlled studies have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of alpha-blockers for relief of the symptoms of benign hyperplasia, but this treatment is still investigational. Keywords
