The Concentration of Vitamin B1 in the Tissues of the Rat

Abstract
Feeding crystalline vitamin B1 to white rats in daily doses of more than 65 micrograms does not produce an increase in body concentration. At maximum retention (through feeding) the B1 concentration is approximately 2 micrograms per gram of body weight. Analyses of individual organs show a considerable difference in the concentration of vitamin B1 therein. The phenomenon of B1 retention and depletion is discussed in the light of the enzyme theory of vitamin B1 function.
