Satellite observation of cloud patterns over East Australian Current anticyclonic eddies

Abstract
A series of circular cumulus cloud patterns of approximately 150 km diameter were observed at night by the Defense Meteorological Satellite's infrared sensors on 20 October 1974 off the east coast of Australia. The observed cloud patterns are thought to be caused by the anticyclonic eddies known to be associated with the East Australian Current. A possible mechanism for this phenomenon is proposed.
