Abstract
The effect of pressure—volume energy, nuclear motions, and reference system on estimated strain energies of mono and polycyclic ring compounds is discussed. Strain energies calculated by common procedures are shown to contain contributions not usually taken into consideration in discussions on ring strain. The dependence of strain-energy values on the choice of reference system is exemplified. Keywords
