Abstract
The stabilization of the MHD mode by an rf wave with a perpendicular electric field is discussed. The increase in the drift velocity under rf oscillation stabilizes the MHD mode. The ponderomotive potential also works as a stabilization mechanism. The stabilization is expected to occur for both ωrf<\varOmega and ωrf>\varOmega (ωrf: rf frequency, \varOmega: ion cyclotron frequency), and is effective for shorter wave-length modes. Keywords
