Abstract
This established tissue culture line has been growing in continuous subcultures for two years. The 30% human serum used originally with Eagle''s Medium was later replaced by 10% horse serum. The cells are pleomorphic with occasional multi-nucleated giant cells. Under identical environmental conditions the growth characteristics as determined by nuclei count and total protein determination are similar for the HeLa (S-3) and Glioma (T.C. 178) cells; generation time for each is 26 hours in the log phase of growth. West Nile and poliomyelitis viruses may be propagated in these Glioma cells. When the cells are injected subcutaneously into the flank of X-irradiated cortisone-treated hamsters small tumors are produced. Keywords
