Abstract
Further trials of metronidazole in acute amebic dysentery have confirmed that a regimen of 800 mg thrice daily for 5 days is highly effective. Single daily doses of 2.0 g for 2 or 3 days produced similar results. In amebic liver abscess, 800 mg thrice daily for 5 days was effective both in curing the abscess and in eradicating Entamoeba histolytica from the bowel. Lower doses were less reliable in curing intestinal infection. In a series of trials of MK-910 in amebic dysentery and amebic liver abscess, at dosages up to 10 mg per kg of body weight daily for 5 days, the drug frequently did not eradicate E. histolytica from the bowel. Keywords
