Abstract
The effect of 12 h shift system on absence attributed to sickness was examined when a change was made from an 8 h to a 12 h shift work system by men employed as process workers in an oil refining and petrochemicals plant. Absences attributed to sickness under the 2 systems for the whole sample of 356 men were tabulated. A t-test was applied to the increase or decrease in absence to establish whether liability to absence differs under the 2 systems. In neither case was the change significant. There was no evidence that a change in absence attributed to sickness was associated with the change of shift system. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
