In vitro Action of Aureomycin on Oxidative Phosphorylation in Animal Tissues

Abstract
In the presence of Mg, low phosphate, and ATP aureomycin inhibited oxidation by washed rat liver mitochondria. With adenosine- 5-phosphate no inhibition occurred. In the absence of Mg, the inhibitory effect of aureomycin on respiration was proportional to its concn. Ageing the mitochondria at 0[degree]C accentuated the inhibition. Addition of Mg to aged mitochondria and adenosine-5-phosphate reversed the aureomycin inhibition of respiration.
