Abstract
The delineation of primary asexual spores from hyphal protoplasm in Aphanomyces euteiches was studied by both light and electron microscopy. The observations indicate that the tonoplast of the central vacuole, present before induction of the sporulation process, was incorporated into the plasma membrane that ultimately surrounded the primary spores, and that cytoplasmic microtubules may be involved in condensation of the spore's cytoplasm. A diagrammatic interpretation of the cleavage process is presented.
