Simple derivation of the diffusion equation from the Fokker-Planck equation using perturbation methods

Abstract
In the paper, we develop an alternate formulation of the diffusion or Smoluchowski equation in the framework of asymptotic perturbation analysis. With the Fokker‐Planck equation as our starting point, and with the assumption of small mean free paths, an explicit scaling of the time coordinate makes this derivation especially suited for classroom use.
