Abstract
There have been recent reports [Zheludev et al., Phys. Rev. B 50, 11 508 (1994)] that bulk GaAs in equilibrium can display natural birefringence due to symmetric terms linear in the light wave vector in the dielectric function. We here argue otherwise.Keywords
