Abstract
Reaction of [{M(C5Me5)}2I4](M = Rh or Ir) with iodine gives first [{M(C5Me5)}2I6] and then [{M(C5Me5)}2I8]. The structure of [{Ir(C5Me5)}2I6] has been shown by X-ray studies to be composed of two centrosymmetric [{Ir(C5Me5)}2I4] molecules, (A) and (B), with I2 molecules linking weakly to the terminal iodines of one (B) and more strongly to the terminal iodines of (A). Analytical and spectroscopic measurements indicate similar structures for the other complexes in the series. Keywords
