Abstract
Osteoarthritis must be distinguished from rheumatoid arthritis. A combined approach to therapy, aimed at relief of symptoms, is usually most successful when it includes physical, medicinal, psychological, and surgical measures. In this article, Dr Altman discusses the diagnosis of osteoarthritis, mechanisms of pain, and the many facets of therapy. Keywords
