Abstract
Training instructors in how to teach about alcohol is essential if they are to be effective in assisting youngsters to avoid alcohol abuse. This paper describes four goals of teacher training in alcohol education: 1) developing attitudes and values which are conducive to effective alcohol education; 2) promoting the ability of instructors to teach about alcohol objectively; 3) providing information about alcohol use, nonuse, and abuse; and 4) promoting teachers' ability to implement effective instructional approaches with students. This paper describes teacher training methods which can be effective in achieving these goals and emphasizes that teachers need to be taught as they are being taught to teach. After a brief consideration of how to evaluate teacher training efforts, the paper concludes with an illustration of a model training design. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
