Abstract
The 1st transitional object was discussed in the realm of a developmental framework. Distinctions between classes of inanimate objects to which children become attached were emphasized. Although variations occur, age 2 is the crucial time when the intensity of the child''s attachment becomes established while most children abandon the 1st transitional object between ages 5-6 yr.
