Abstract
The ponderomotive force of the parametrically excited electron plasma waves drastically modifies the density profile. The asymptotic density profile has a subcritical density plateau followed by a density jump to supercritical densities which reduces the parametric instabilities, as observed in particle simulation calculations. Keywords
