Abstract
Vitamin E, dried brewers yeast and 0.05 ppm Se were equally effective in promoting growth, preventing exudative diathesis and maintaining normal serum protein, albu -min/globulin ratio and blood hemoglobin in chicks fed vitamin E -free soybean protein diet. Deficiency symptoms appeared in 30 days, and included mild edema and subcutaneous hemorrhage. Addition of 0.7% Na, 0.5 ppm As, or 1% K plus 0.07% mg to the diet did not reduce time to appearance of symptoms. Addition of 20% or 30% Torula yeast to the diet resulted in exudative diathesis in 18 and 17 days, respectively. Keywords
