Abstract
Intraperitoneal injections of 1 ml20%propylene glycol, 1.5 ml 10% ethanol and 0.8 ml 30% glucose reduced 30-day mortality in mice subjected to whole-body irradiation. Dose-reduction factors of about 1.25 were obtained with propylene glycol and ethanol respectively. The protection lasted for about 1-2 hours. Some estimations of the oxygentension in the spleen were made. The data suggest that protection against irradiation may be caused by a mode of action other than through anoxia.
