Abstract
Liver atrophy is a major feature in rats with a portacaval shunt. Histological studies revealed small hepatocytes. Ultrastructural differences between periportal and centrolobular zones were noticed. The dilatation of the nuclear envelope and of the rough endoplasmic reticulum, which was disorganized and sometimes without ribosomes, was more pronounced in the periportal zone. Hepatocytes of this zone might be more sensitive to the decrease of O2 and/or hepatotrophic factors. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
