Abstract
α-Fe dendrites produced during the primary crystallization of a Fe81B13.5Si3-5C2 metallic glass have been analysed by STEM electron-energy-loss spectrometry (EELS). Results from this analysis indicate that the α-Fe dendrites contain less than 1 at. % of the silicon component and contain no detectable boron component; X-ray microanalysis has confirmed the EELS result for Si. Some conclusions are drawn concerning the crystallization behaviour of the glass. Keywords
