Acquisition of a bar-press response to escape frustrative nonreward and reduced reward.

Abstract
Gave 45 male Holtzman rats reinforced placement trials to a 15-pellet reward. Ss were subsequently given either 1 or 0 pellets and were lifted out of the box if they pressed a bar. Bar-press speeds were faster for these 2 experimental groups than for control groups (n = 45) which had not been given the 15-pellet reward. Results indicate that rats can learn a bar-press response to escape frustrative nonreward and reduced reward. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
