Abstract
The properties of least-square lattice filters make them suitable for adaptive filtering in data communication systems. A Viterbi algorithm type of adaptive receiver is derived directly from the optimal receiver for an additive Gaussian noise channel. It makes use of least-square lattice filters to perform equalization and noise cancellation and converges very quickly to the optimal receiver. The receiver also adapts rapidly to changes in the impulse response of the channel or in the statistics of the noise. Keywords
