Abstract
A triggered spark source for C+, C2+, C3+, and C4+ ions has been built that yields ∼2 μsec duration bursts of ions with an energy per unit charge range of 50 eV to 10 keV. After charge separation and 4% energy selection 103−105 ions/pulse are obtained. The source is similar in design to titanium-washer hydrogen plasma guns, but in the present application graphite washers are used. Methods for overcoming experimental problems associated with this type of source have been developed and the source has been successfully used for collision experiments. Keywords
