Abstract
Microscopic studies of the capillary bed in the human conjunctiva reveal that the topography of vessels agrees closely with that observed in splanchnic areas of other mammals. In response to the direct application of epinephrine, the precapillary sphincters were the most reactive regions of the peripheral circulation. Arteriolar blood flow velocity was 0.12 mm./sec.; capillary flow was 0.026 mm./ sec; and venular blood flow was 0.056 mm./sec. on the avg. The epinephrine test offers a method of measuring directly the sensitivity of terminal arterioles in man to a vasoconstrictor stimulus. Keywords
