Abstract
In order to manage psoriasis effectively, a physician needs to be familiar with topical medications in each of three general classes: emollients, antipsoriasis agents such as coal tar and anthralin, and corticosteroids. Occlusive dressings enhance the effectiveness of topical steroids. Individual lesions can be treated with steroid tape or steroid injections. The greatest potential for systemic therapy of severe psoriasis lies with drugs similar to those used for cancer therapy.
