Abstract
The sequence of oögenetic events was arbitrarily divided into a series of 10 stages, beginning with the germarium and ending with the mature egg. Polarization of the nurse cells, with the larger cells adjacent to the oöcytes, was first observed in stage 3 follicles and continued through stage 7. Increase in size of the oöcytes after disintegration of the nurse cells in stage 8 indicated that the follicle cells had a trophic function. A limited examination of spermatogenesis showed the haploid chromosome number to be 3. Approximate lengths of the 3 parts of a mature spermatozoon were: apical filament 15μ; body 450μ; and coiled tail 700μ–1500μ.This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
