Abstract
We obtain the exact static spherically symmetric solution of the coupled Einstein–massless-scalar-field equations for arbitrary spacetime dimensions. The general solution involves two parameters: it is asymptotically flat and the scalar field tends to zero at spacelike infinity. It exhibits a naked singularity unless the scalar field vanishes when it naturally reduces to the Schwarzschild solution in D spacetime dimensions. Keywords
