Abstract
The current status of neonatal transfusion practices was investigated encompassing the areas of blood component selection, component processing, and product administration. A neonatal hemotherapy questionnaire was mailed to 25 free-standing pediatric institutions. Questionnaires were analyzed and interpreted for current trends in neonatal medicine. CPD and CPD-A1 red blood cells less than seven days old and less than five days old, respectively, are the red cell products of choice for routine and exchange transfusions. The majority of institutions surveyed routinely provide cytomegalovirus seronegative and irradiated red cell products. Current trends in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation were also investigated. Keywords
