Search for RareK+Decays. II.K+→π+νν¯

Abstract

In a counter experiment at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Bevatron we have searched for the process

K^{+} \to π^{+} ν \bar{ν}

in the kinetic energy interval

60 < T_{π} < 105

MeV and have found no examples of this decay mode. Combining our data with those of Klems, Hildebrand, and Stiening for the interval

117 < T_{π} < 127

MeV, we obtain the limit

Γ (K^{+} \to π^{+} ν \bar{ν}) < 5.6 \times 10^{- 7}

Γ (K^{+} \to all)

, assuming a (vector) pion spectrum like that for

K^{+} \to π^{0} e^{+} ν

. Limits are presented for other assumed spectra.
