Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis

Abstract
Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis is usually associated with guttate hyperkeratosis, xerosis and lentiginosis not related to patient''s age. Histologically, hypopigmented macules showed decreased melanin, DOPA oxidase activity and number of melanosomes in melanocytes with predominance of Stages 1 and 2 and small sizes. The epidermis was always atrophic. When scales were removed by scraping, hyperkeratotic lesions showed, clinically and histologically, variable degrees of hypomelanosis, suggesting a relationship with the hypopigmented macules. Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis was the result of early aging of skin.
