Abstract
MATERNAL pulmonary embolism by amniotic fluid was first described by Steiner and Lushbaugh1 in 1941. The authors based this study on 8 cases in human beings and successfully produced the picture by intravenous inoculation of amniotic fluid and meconium into dogs and rabbits. In the following year they2 presented 2 additional cases.
