Abstract
This paper proposes more frequent use of the experimental method in leisure research and advocates the use of multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) for the analysis of experiments which utilize more than one dependent measure. The rationale for the use of MANO VA is explained, along with the assumptions which underlie the method. A model for determining the appropriate way to analyze multivariate experiments is presented. Various techniques f or investigating the sources of significant effects after a MANOVA is performed are compared, and a format for reporting the results of a multivariate experiment is suggested. Finally, an example of a multivariate experiment in leisure research is presented from its inception through interpretation of results. This example demonstrates one use of MANOVA in leisure research. Keywords
