Idiopathic Membranous Nephropathy

Abstract
Membranous nephropathy, a chronic glomerular disease with a distinct histopathological pattern can be caused by a variety of different antigens. In the great majority of patients, no precipitating disease or incriminating antigen is isolated and the term idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) is applied. IMN presents either with the nephrotic syndrome (75-85%) or with non-nephrotic proteinuria. Follow-up studies in patients presenting the non-nephrotic proteinuria suggest that this proteinuria should not necessarily be considered as a pre-nephrotic phase. Complications of IMN and the clinical course in children were discussed.
