A Three-year Overwintering Study of the Spotted Alfalfa Aphid1

Abstract
During a 3-year study in the eastern third of Kansas, the spotted alfalfa aphid, Therioaphis maculata (Buckton), survived one winter from the southern to the northern boundary of Kansas and two winters as far north as Manhattan. Over wintering was restricted to south-facing slopes of roadside embankments when it occurred in the north and central portions but occurred in both fields and roadside embankments in the southern portion.
