Abstract
In this report literature on transport and function of ascorbic acid in ocular tissues is reviewed. The role of ascorbic acid in various regions of the eye is not well understood. It appears one important function of this compound is protection against oxidative damage, particularly photoinduced damage. In contrast, data are also reviewed that suggest ascorbic acid may participate in the oxidative modification of lens proteins seen with aging. Keywords
