Abstract
THE present knowledge of the clinical usefulness of streptomycin is largely the result of a coordinated effort by the streptomycin producers with the medical departments of several governmental agencies, including the Army, Navy, Public Health Service and Veterans Administration, as well as many physicians throughout the country. Under the guidance of the Committee on Chemotherapeutics and Other Agents of the National Research Council and with funds contributed by several pharmaceutical and chemical companies, limited amounts of streptomycin were apportioned to civilian physicians for the purpose of investigating its effectiveness in a wide variety of conditions.
